Exercise Physiology

These interventions are exercise-based and include health and physical activity education, advice and support, and lifestyle modification, focusing on achieving behavioural change.
At MyRecovery, our exercise physiologists form an integral part of our multidisciplinary team.

Our exercise physiologist works closely with our physiotherapists and occupational therapists to ensure each participant has a tailored approach to achieving their goals. Exercise physiology interventions aim to:

  • Prevent or manage acute, sub-acute or chronic disease or injury

  • Assist in restoring one’s optimal physical function

  • Assist in restoring one’s health or wellness

When should I see an Exercise Physiologist?

There are a wide range of reasons why a person may benefit from consulting an accredited exercise physiologist. These include:

  • Strength and conditioning in the context of your disability

  • Metabolic disease

  • Pulmonary disease

  • Neurological disease

  • Musculoskeletal disease (including arthritis, osteoporosis/osteopenia, acute and/or chronic musculoskeletal issues)

  • Depression, schizophrenia, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

What services do Exercise Physiologists Provide?

Accredited exercise physiologists offer a range of intervention options to assist our participants to achieve their goals. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Prescription of tailored exercise programs

  • Behavioural coaching

  • Health education

  • Exercise counselling

  • Capacity building

Exercise Physiology and the NDIS

In the 2019 NDIS Support Catalogue, Exercise Physiology was included in the Improved Daily Living Skills Category in addition to the Improved Health and Wellbeing Category, creating more opportunity for choice and control for NDIS participants. This allows MyRecovery participants to maximise the funding available in their plan with maximum return for benefit. With all your practitioners under one roof, MyRecovery is active in managing NDIS Plans to ensure the participant receives the benefit from all the professions involved.

Our exercise physiologists are able to deliver services:

  • At your home

  • On-site at our clinic

  • Via telehealth
